Grade Lookup

I just added a link under the "HW" section of our class website that lets you lookup your grades. For now it's just HW #1, but in the future it will obviously include everything graded. It also prints the class averages (for EE 42 and EE 100 separately).

This is useful in case you're graded homework is missing or you're concerned about a midterm re-grade (please don't ask us to regrade your exams unless it's absolutely necessary!!!).

Slide 14: For a voltage amplifier, we want Rout << RL (good voltage source)
Slide 17: For the effective gain, the equation had a typo. The voltage divider at the output is

Extended Office Hours (Hsiwen) for Midterm #1

Hi,

Since Midterm #1 is in next Tuesday's lecture, there is no point me having my discussion section right after Midterm #1.

Therefore, I will have extra office hours this week instead:

Wednesday (2/15), 3pm - 5pm, 240 Cory.
Friday (2/17), 2pm-4pm, 240 Cory.

Come if you have problems regarding the subject matters of Midterm #1.

Thursday discussion

Lab 2

Hi all, because it appears that many students were unable to finish this week's lab in the allotted 3 hours (also due to the fact that the labs are slightly ahead of the lecture schedule), we will again be making this a 2-week lab. You will have both this week and next to finish the lab, so the report will be due the week of the 27th.

Unfortunately, Monday labs will not have next week due to the holiday. If you are in that situation, you may attend any other lab sections to work on your lab, provided there's room. For checkoffs, Monday students may get any of the lab GSIs' signatures.

Alternatively, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the kits and myDAQs passed out either last week or this week to do labs at home. Be sure to pick out the resistors and op amps that you will need from the lab, as the kits do not include them. If you were unable to get either one today, you may go into another lab section this week and let the GSI know what you need.

Hi all, here is a blurb from BioEHS:

Want a little extra practice with EE 100?

Come out to the EE 100 study group which will be starting up next week! The study group is put on by BioEHS and is a free resource available to all students in EE 100. The study group functions like an extra discussion section during which students will get to review the material that was presented in lecture and then tackle midterm-level questions.

The EE 100 study group will meet Tuesdays from 7:30pm to 9:00 in 258 Dwinelle. If you feel that you could use a little extra time brushing up on course concepts or if you would like to try your hand at some challenging problems, we encourage you to come out. Signing up is not necessary, just show up!

Problem Set #1, Problem 8

There are some assumptions you need to make to solve #8. If you explain your assumptions, you'll get full credit. If you're not sure, make the following assumptions:

(a) You can charge a battery if the current flows into the positive terminal.
(b) By charging it, you thereby increase its capacity.
(c) When a battery dies, the equivalent circuit is just a resistor in series with the zero volt source.

Here is why these assumptions are not necessarily the only ones you could make. For instance, if a cell is fully charged, it may not readily accept current and its capacity would not increase.

But in the interest of keeping things "simple", you may make the above assumptions.

Conflict with 61c final

I noticed that midterm #2 was a Spring Break killer. Now the second midterm is scheduled before the recess so that you can relax and have fun (hopefully!).

Some of you taking this class may be interested in doing robotics or inspiring younger students in this area. If you fit that description, I encourage you to check out Pioneers in Engineering.

With no prerequisite experience required, you can take a 2-unit DeCal (http://www.decal.org/courses/2094) to learn basic skills for building a simple robot. You are then assigned to a local high school team to mentor them as they build their very first robot for our final competition in April.

If you are interested, check out the infosession, to be held in 306 Soda on Thursday, 1/26, at 7pm. Refreshments will be provided.

In particular, Discussion 104 and Lab 20 are to be cancelled, so move to another section if you are still enrolled.

If the section you are trying to get into is full, place yourself on the waitlist; there should be no trouble getting in after a week or two.
